  • Vineyard field day teaches about good birds, bad birds

    When it comes to caring for healthy, productive vineyards, don’t underestimate the benefit of birds of prey. That’s what farmworkers, vineyard managers and viticulturists learned Friday during a field day offered through the Napa Valley Grapegrowers at Huichica Creek Sustainable Demonstration Vineyard. The field day, which focused on “vertebrates in the vineyard,” was the third and final day of a three-part series that included training sessions, classroom seminars and field trips.

  • Best Of The Best Compete In Pruning Contest

    YOUNTVILLE — “I already won because I’m here,” said Roberto Juarez (in Spanish) during the 15th annual Napa County Pruning Contest on Thursday at Beringer Vineyards’ Gamble Ranch. Out of the thousands of farmworkers in the Napa Valley, fewer than 100 were selected to participate in the pruning contest presented by the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation and the Napa Valley Grapegrowers.

  • Wine Industry Gathers For Rootstock

    Napa Valley grapegrowers and their workers turned out in force Thursday for a trade show at Napa Valley Expo that celebrated the nurturing of the prized wine grape. Rootstock featured vendors of all stripes that offered new technology, equipment options, advances in irrigation and frost protection and other industry services. Many wineries were represented as well, some of them leading blending sessions.
