The Business of Vineyards – Part III - Labor and the Napa Valley Workforce

Location:

Meadowood - 900 Meadowood Ln, St Helena, CA 94574

Schedule:

05/18/2017
8:00am - 10:00am

Overview:

As the business of grapegrowing has evolved, both vineyard owners and vineyard management companies' interests and concerns have become more similar. To reflect this, we have combined the Grower Series and Round Table Discussion into one exciting new four-part series, The Business of Vineyards. This series will focus on all aspects of running a vineyard business and address important topics relevant to operating a healthy and successful company.

Labor is one of the leading challenges we face in our industry.  This session will give growers and vineyard managers insight into the state of the California labor market and how the rest of the state’s challenges are impacting Napa.  Joe Garcia will discuss the broader California labor market and how the rest of the state's challenges are impacting Napa.  Dr. Giovanni Peri, a leading labor economist, has done extensive research on labor trends in Napa and will provide analysis and trends gathered from our annual Wages and Benefits Survey.  He will also address national and Napa-specific labor data, and discuss ideas to mitigate the risk of losing labor to other industries and counties.

Speakers

Joe Garcia, CEO, Jaguar Farm Labor Contracting

Dr. Giovanni Peri, Professor & Department Chair, Department of Economics, University of California, Davis
