Grapevine pests and diseases will always be an element of viticulture, but some of them are really worth the battle. Come educate yourself on two of the most challenging vineyard issues facing our valley today: Pierce's Disease and Vine Mealybugs. What is known? What can be done? Are you doing all you can? These bad guys know no borders, so let's come together and up our game, Napa Valley!

Meet the Experts:


SOMMER WOLLEY, AGRICULTURAL BIOLOGIST/WEIGHTS & MEASURES INSPECTOR IV, NAPA COUNTY AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE
Sommer Woolley is a lead Agricultural Biologist/Weights & Measures Inspector with the Napa County Agricultural Commissioner's Office. She has been with the department for 15 years and helps manage the Pest Exclusion programs including the glassy-winged sharpshooter, vine mealybug, and high-risk plant inspection programs.


DR. LUCIA VARELA, NORTH COAST IPM ADVISOR UC COOPERATIVE EXTENSION 
Dr. Varela, Associate Director for Agricultural IPM, is responsible for planning, coordinating, and integrating outreach, research, and extension materials related to agricultural integrated pest management.

DR. MONICA COOPER, FARM ADVISOR – VITICULTURE, UC COOPERATIVE EXTENSION
Since 2009, Dr. Cooper has been employed as a Farm Advisor-Viticulture with UC Cooperative Extension in Napa County. Educated as a “Plant Doctor” at the University of Florida, she has professional training in plant pathology, entomology, soils, and plant science.  Her research interests include pest management, viticulture production, and vineyard team dynamics.  Dr. Cooper is Executive Director of the Napa Valley Vineyard Technical Group, and has an active outreach program with the goal of extending science-based technical information to the vineyard industry.
