9th ANNUAL NAPA COUNTY PRUNING CONTEST BRINGS OUT THE "BEST OF THE BEST"
Winners Take Home Over $1,300 plus prizes
The 9th annual Napa County Pruning Contest was held yesterday at Beringer Vineyards Gamble Ranch in Yountville, where 56 farmworkers challenged each other’s art, skill, and speed at pruning Napa Valley vineyards. After the contest, everyone enjoyed fresh tacos complements of Hudson Vineyards and our 2010 sponsors. Four winners took home over $1,300 in cash winnings, an armful of tools, clothing, and other prizes.

1st Place – Jesus Vega from Komes Ranch
2nd Place – Miguel Contreras from Cardinale
3rd Place – Jose Alfredo Segura from Spring Mountain Vineyard
4th Place - Jose Plancarte from HALL Wines
The prizes were:
- •1st Place - $600 plus custom trophy buckle, gift card from Rainbow Ag, pruning shears, holster, loppers, and sweatshirt from Central Valley Builders Supply
- •2nd Place - $400 plus pruning shears and a sweatshirt from Central Valley Builders Supply, a hand saw from Wyatt Irrigation, and $50 gift card from Rainbow Ag
- •3rd Place - $200 plus pruning shears and a sweatshirt from Central Valley Builders Supply, a hand saw from Wyatt Irrigation, and $50 gift card from Rainbow Ag
- •4th Place - $100 plus pruning shears and a sweatshirt from Central Valley Builders Supply, a hand saw from Wyatt Irrigation, and $50 gift card from Rainbow Ag
Additionally, the NVG encourages winners' employees to match their cash prizes. All contestants received a hat from Pruning Contest premier sponsor, Central Valley Builders Supply.
Pruning Contest Committee Chair Mary Maher noted that "This year's Pruning Contest contestants were some of the best we've had in the past nine years. Today, we let the world know how important farmworkers are to the quality reputation of Napa Valley vineyards!"
