Historic Vineyard Registry

The Napa Valley Grapegrowers is committed to the promotion and sustainability of viticulture in Napa County , one of the oldest grape growing regions in America . In order to celebrate and record this unique heritage the NVG is creating a Registry of Historic Vineyards. This project will tie pioneer viticulturalists with the land they farmed by researching archives that document the provenance of vineyards prior to Prohibition.

The project is currently in Phase 1 of a 3 phase approach. Phase 1 is a “fact finding” mission in which a list of historical grower records will be compiled and historic maps will be acquired and prepared for subsequent phases. As currently conceptualized, later phases of the project will include a county-wide map of historic grape growing areas and a final phase in which property owners who fall within identified historic growing areas can elect to go through the historic property registration process.

The establishment of the Registry of Historic Napa Valley Vineyards will bring great recognition to both the individual parcel owner and the overall vineyard base of the wine business in the Napa Valley. Individual property owners will receive a beautiful certificate evidencing the property's historic roots. By honoring the land in this way, the Napa Valley Grapegrowers continues its efforts to preserve and protect Napa Valley agriculture.
